Research

My research spans literary studies, film studies, gender studies, and cultural studies, with a focus on reproduction and representational politics. Specifically, I am interested in fictional representations of reproductive technologies and politics and how they connect to citizenship, sexuality, biopolitics, and race. You can read about this research in my book, Reproductive Acts: Sexual Politics in North American Fiction and Film (McGill-Queen's, 2013). I also have research interests in popular culture, postcolonial studies, sexuality studies, science studies, and health and medicine.

My current research focuses on how the figure of the fetus functions in relation to the figure of the refugee in our cultural and political imagination, especially as both intersect with conversations about citizenship and human rights.
